As opposed to sound waves, interference of light is less obvious. This is caused by the fact that light waves have far shorter wavelengths than sound waves. Thomas Young carried out a double slit experiment in 1801, effectively demonstrating how light may interfere. Young enabled light to enter a hole, then two pinholes S1 and S2 that were further apart. An unequal distribution of light intensity was shown on a screen after light was received there.
