As is generally known, India gets its name from the Sindhu (Indus) River, and the country's first civilisation sprang up around it. Higher up in the Indus Valley, another civilisation flourished. The Aryas or Aryans were the people that were affiliated with this civilisation. Their religion was typically aniconic, with the feminine element subservient to the masculine in their pantheon and deities like as Indra, Varuna, and others given prominence.
