Education is a fundamental human right and a prerequisite for human dignity. SDG 4 is also interconnected with other goals in the 2030 Agenda. Access to high-quality education is a means of advancing social mobility and eliminating disparities.
Education is vital for developing the knowledge base required to address critical concerns such as climate change. Education will assist children in preparing for high-skill jobs in the fourth industrial revolution. And education is a foundation for peaceful societies and effective institutions.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is global, holistic, with a unique imperative to leave no one behind. The attainment of SDG 4 – ensuring accessible and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for everyone – is critical to the development of sustainable, inclusive, and resilient societies. Because education is not only an essential component but also a crucial enabler of, sustainable development, it must be included in national development plans and strategies for achieving all of the SDGs.
